Following stellar kick-off, Council announces "Listening Town Hall" on Oct 29th
Washington, D.C.: The PMDD Policy Council is pleased to announce it will host a virtual town hall on October 29. The meeting comes on the heels of the Council's successful launch party and virtual town hall in late September. The gathering will feature several speakers talking about their personal stories and perspectives on what needs to change. Following their remarks, the community will break out into smaller groups to share their own stories and brainstorm policy ideas. The Listening Town Hall will take place via Zoom on Thursday, October 29th at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT.
"This will be a listening town hall and we intend to do just that: listen to people with PMDD, their partners and loved ones, and the experts and clinicians treating it."
— Emily Blout, President
"This town hall is about you. The stories and policy ideas that come out of it will inform the Council's policy platform."
— Marybeth Bohn, Vice President
"At the end of the day, this Council is fueled by its members. Our collective voices can move mountains."
— JoLynn Meirovitz, Vice President
What is PMDD?
PMDD stands for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, a cyclical, hormone-based disorder affecting menstruating women and girls.
PMDD causes severe emotional, mental, and physical symptoms, including (but not limited to):
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Extreme fatigue
- Irritability
- Brain fog
- Suicidal ideation
These symptoms occur in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle (7–14 days before a period starts) and can dramatically disrupt one's career, relationships, social life, and mental health.
